In my work the process and the result are of equal importance. The point of departure is always the desire to draw and in turn, to surprise myself. I have what I call an empirical approach, that is to say a procedure based on observation and experimentation ; curiosity, doubt and an open mind are essential. There are two interconnecting elements which have gradually become apparent in my work ; the first is a tendency to make drawings in series and the second is a fascination with the natural sciences and in particular with the diverse systems of visual representation they employ in order to reveal , describe or instruct. The appropriation and manipulation of these visual systems often provide the context for my drawing practice and oblige me to use a variety of approaches and materials, including light and film.
